Choose a Nigerian namespace by its intended use and eligibility, then verify the exact name and current ordering requirements. An extension being listed in a search form does not mean every applicant qualifies for every name beneath it.

02 Make an informed selection
- Identify the intended registered holder and the purpose of the website or email service.
- Confirm whether the relevant namespace is open or requires institutional approval.
- Search the precise label and review spelling, reserved-name rules, price and renewal terms.
- For a restricted namespace, obtain the current document checklist before paying for dependent work.
- Prepare your hosting and DNS plan so the domain can serve the intended website and mail after approval.
Does an open namespace remove all registration rules?
No. Open describes applicant access, not an absence of naming, use or registry restrictions. A particular label can still be reserved or unavailable. Check the exact name instead of assuming that a broad namespace description guarantees acceptance.
Should a school choose .edu.ng simply because it teaches students?
The institution's recognised category matters. Use the dedicated .edu.ng and .sch.ng guides to choose the relevant application route. Do not force an ineligible school into a tertiary category merely because a shorter name looks attractive.
Keep the domain under the correct institutional or business account with a monitored contact address. Brand preference, registration approval, DNS hosting and a website plan are separate decisions; completing one does not automatically purchase the others.
