Prepare a .sch.ng domain application for an eligible school

domains-dns, development

Use the .sch.ng application route for an eligible Nigerian school or qualifying non-degree institution. NiRA's published policy restricts this namespace and requires the proposed name to reflect the approved institution.

01 Check institutional eligibility first

The policy covers approved primary, secondary and other non-degree awarding institutions. It requires the relevant registration and educational approval, and limits an approved school to one registration under .sch.ng. A tertiary institution should review the separate .edu.ng guide instead of using the school route automatically.

02 Prepare a consistent application

  1. Identify the institution's approved name and the exact label you want to register.
  2. Check whether it already has a .sch.ng domain, including a name acquired by an earlier administrator or developer.
  3. Ask us for the current checklist for the institution type. Prepare the relevant registration and accreditation evidence rather than assuming a generic company document is enough.
  4. Arrange approval by the institution's authorised representative and identify a monitored administrative contact.
  5. Confirm who will manage DNS and obtain the intended authoritative nameservers.
  6. Submit the requested material through the approved support or application process and track the case reference.

Can I register a second name for a department or campus?

Do not place another restricted-domain order without checking the institution's existing registration and NiRA's rule. A subdomain of the institution's existing domain may meet the operational need without seeking a separate registration. Have the school and provider review the structure before creating public email addresses or printed material.

What if the documents use different names?

Explain the difference and provide the current approval or name-change evidence requested by the reviewer. Do not edit scanned documents or submit an unrelated entity's credentials to make the strings match. Registry approval concerns the real institution, not only the availability of the label.

Once approval and registration are confirmed, verify the institutional account, expiry and nameserver delegation. Then configure the website and email records. Keep the approval evidence and provider reference with the school's records so a later staff handover does not lose the basis of the registration.
