Moving a DirectAdmin user between resellers

control-panels, resellers

Moving a user between DirectAdmin resellers changes account ownership and management responsibility on the same server. It is different from migrating the account to another server, and it should not be combined with an unnecessary DNS or website-data move.

Prepare for the change

Use an administrator account. Obtain authorization for both ownership contexts, record the current reseller and package, and verify the receiving reseller has sufficient permitted resources. Review billing automation because a panel ownership change does not automatically update every external system.

01 Move a DirectAdmin user between resellers

  1. Create a current user backup and record domains, IP assignments, resource usage and account-specific limits.
  2. At Admin level open Account Manager and Move Users between Resellers. Select the exact user, its current owner and the intended destination reseller.
  3. Review capacity and package differences. Decide whether to retain custom limits or later assign a suitable destination package; avoid silently reducing limits below existing usage.
  4. Apply the ownership transfer through the panel. Do not manually edit creator fields or move home directories.
  5. Inspect the account under the receiving reseller. Update external provisioning or support records if they track the former owner, using the appropriate authorized workflow.

Will this move the website to a new machine?

No. A reseller ownership transfer leaves the account on its current host. A cross-server move requires backup or migration, destination testing and an intentional DNS cutover.

Confirm the expected result

Confirm the new reseller can manage the user and the old reseller no longer has inappropriate access. Test the existing website, mail and panel login. Check account limits and shared IP behaviour without changing public DNS merely because ownership changed.

If the change does not work

If the destination reseller cannot manage the account, review ownership, remaining allocation and account state. Preserve the recorded before-state and use the supported ownership move to reverse an incorrect transfer. A failed service test may reveal a separate package or permission change and should be diagnosed before making further ownership moves.
