A HostBill promotion should specify who qualifies, which charges it discounts and how long it lasts. Configure those restrictions before distributing a code, then test both an eligible and an ineligible order.
IN THIS ARTICLE
01 Create the promotion
- Open Extras > Promotions > Promotional Codes and choose Add new code.
- Enter a recognisable code and administrative note identifying the campaign owner and approved offer. Choose its active or archived status.
- Select the coupon type appropriate to the workflow: cart, invoice or a supported combined option. Invoice coupons apply to eligible product or service invoices, not ordinary manually created invoices.
- Set the fixed or percentage discount and whether it affects the setup fee, recurring amount or total. Review the once-only or recurring behaviour against your published offer.
- Restrict the applicable customers, products, categories, components, TLD actions and billing cycles. Set the expiry, overall usage limit and per-client limit.
- Test the code in a controlled cart or eligible unpaid invoice. Check a mixed basket to ensure unrelated items are not discounted.
- Review the future recurring amount before publishing the offer. A first-payment discount should not silently become an indefinite discount.
02 Monitor and close the campaign
Use the coupon usage log to check redemption and unexpected eligibility patterns. Review component settings such as Don't discount when a qualifying cart total differs from the advertised calculation.
At the campaign's end, confirm the code is expired or archived and update active promotional links. Retain its configuration and usage history so billing staff can explain the price paid by an earlier customer.
03 Example: test a HostBill coupon before advertising it
Your business has approved a first-order promotion for one hosting product. Create a code such as LAUNCHTEST in a controlled test setup before publishing the real campaign.
- Open Extras > Promotions > Promotional Codes > Add new code.
- Enter the approved discount and restrict it to the intended product, customers, billing cycles and active dates.
- Set the appropriate once-only behaviour and usage limits.
- Test an eligible order and an excluded product.
- Test a mixed basket and inspect the future recurring amount.
Expected result: only the approved charge receives the intended promotion. The sample code is a testing label, not a Nabtech offer, and its configuration must be replaced with your business's authorised campaign terms.
Common questions
Why does an invoice coupon fail on a custom manual invoice?
HostBill's documented invoice-coupon workflow is for invoices generated from products or services. Use an authorised invoice adjustment for a separate manual charge when appropriate.
Can a code apply to registrations but exclude domain renewals?
Yes, the domain-action restrictions can distinguish registration, transfer and renewal. Test each action and relevant TLD before sharing the campaign.
