Searching an enabled SpamExperts email archive

email, security-ssl

Search SpamExperts archiving when you need a retained message that the purchased archive service actually captured. Ordinary filtering logs and quarantine are different stores and should not be treated as a complete archive.

01 Locate a retained message

  1. Open the correct domain or email-user scope with authorised archive access.
  2. Choose Archiving > Search - Incoming or Archiving > Search - Outgoing. These open log search with In archive enabled. You can also set In archive = Yes in the corresponding log search.
  3. Set the relevant domain, recipient or sender and time range.
  4. Inspect matching records and narrow by subject or supported content criteria if necessary.
  5. Open or export only the required message where your permissions permit it.

02 When message-content search is missing

Content search requires an archive index. At the authorised domain scope, use Regenerate Index, select the smallest useful date range and choose Generate. The Message Content query rule becomes available when indexing completes. Review the index settings to see which message or attachment content is included, and avoid starting overlapping index jobs.

03 Check coverage

If a record is missing, establish whether archiving was enabled at that time and whether that message direction passed through the archive route. Internal mailbox-to-mailbox messages may require a separate journaling configuration.

Common questions

Why can I see a record but not its content?

Archive protection and role restrictions can hide content even when metadata is visible. Ask the authorised archive administrator to review the specific request.

Can I redeliver a message?

Use the available redelivery action only when appropriate and permitted. It can create another mailbox copy, so tell the recipient and check for duplicates.

Does the archive contain messages from before activation?

Not automatically. Historical import is a separate supported process with scope and prerequisites.

Record the purpose of the search and keep exported material in restricted storage. For an investigation, preserve the original identifiers and time range so another authorised reviewer can reproduce the search. Avoid deleting archive entries as part of an ordinary cleanup while a preservation request is active.
