Configuring NordVPN auto-connect for a supported device

security-ssl

Configure NordVPN to connect automatically on the network types you choose, then test that behaviour after reconnecting or restarting. Auto-connect settings vary by operating system and do not replace checking that the app is actually connected.

01 Configure your device

  1. Install the current supported NordVPN app, sign into the activated account and confirm a manual connection works. Resolve sign-in or network problems before automating the connection.
  2. On Windows, open Settings > Connection and security > Auto-connect. Select the appropriate network types and the recommended or custom destination offered by the app.
  3. On macOS, open Settings > Auto-connect. On Android or iOS, open the profile area, then Settings > Auto-connect. Select the available network scope for that platform.
  4. For the native Linux command-line app, use nordvpn set autoconnect on and inspect the current configuration with nordvpn settings.
  5. Review any trusted-network exceptions deliberately. An exception can prevent automatic connection on that network even when the general setting is enabled.
  6. Reconnect to a test network and verify the app's connection state. Repeat after a normal device restart if automatic startup is part of the intended workflow.

Common questions

Why does it connect on Wi-Fi but not mobile data?

Check the selected network types and the operating system's permissions or restrictions. Some platforms offer different choices.

Why will a hotel login page not open?

A captive portal may need to be completed before the VPN connects. Follow Nord's portal procedure, then reconnect and restore the intended protection settings before normal work.

Can I configure this on every NordVPN platform?

No. Nord's current guide excludes auto-connect configuration in the tvOS app. Use the documented controls for the actual installed product rather than assuming desktop options exist everywhere.
