A Gallery block presents a related collection of images while keeping them within a consistent layout. Choose a useful order, provide context and test any image-opening behaviour so the gallery works beyond its initial visual grid.

01 Prepare the collection
Select images that contribute something distinct rather than several nearly identical files. Prepare suitable web copies and check publication rights. Decide whether captions are needed to identify people, locations or steps, and whether images should open larger versions or remain non-interactive.
Write alternative text for each informative image in its gallery context. A gallery-wide introduction can explain the collection but does not automatically replace useful per-image alternatives.
02 Build the gallery
- Insert a Gallery block and select or upload the approved images.
- Arrange their order using the gallery or List View controls.
- Select the outer Gallery to review columns, spacing, crop and supported link behaviour.
- Select individual Image blocks to check alternative text, captions and any image-specific destination.
- Save a draft and preview the complete gallery at several widths.
How do I check that visitors can use the gallery?
Confirm that important subjects remain visible when cropping is enabled. If a consistent crop removes essential details, change the crop behaviour or prepare a better composition rather than accepting a misleading thumbnail.
Use a keyboard to reach linked images and test any lightbox or enlarged-view control. Verify the close action, focus behaviour and caption readability. If a plugin supplies the viewer, its accessibility and loading behaviour need their own review.
03 Keep the page efficient
A very large gallery can generate many image requests and a long page. Consider smaller themed collections or an appropriate gallery solution when visitors need to browse hundreds of images. Avoid loading full-resolution originals into every small grid cell.
If an image is missing, inspect its individual block and file URL before replacing the entire gallery. Deleting a Media Library item can affect other uses of that image. After changes, check the public page with relevant caches cleared and make sure the gallery order still tells the intended story.
